Colorful Creatures
Through the margins of this book, the illustrator of this late- medieval encyclopedia teaches us of a colorful imaginary world where pink dragons, winged mermaids. blue mermen, orange leopards with green heads, and other fantasy creatures play an iridescent concert for us, the reader/observer.
A private concert is held as well.. The music of three angels playing the organetto, psaltery and a bowed instrument paint with subtle sounds the union of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Jean Corbechon's De proprietatibus rerum (On the Properties of Things), was commissioned by Amadeus VIII, Count of Savoy (1383-1451) and finished in 1415. Fitzwilliam Museum MS 251.
